Hello out there

Here’s to the power of love, music and culture

Well four weeks ago I used my last grand and hoofed it down to Newcastle and managed four days in Blank recording studio with engineer John Martindale, Monday to Thursday 10-6pm  (£940 + fuel & Acom)

Yes same budget as U2’s restaurant bill ;-)

On the Monday and Tuesday young Charlie Smith came in and we got right to it, and by Tuesday evening we had drums, electric and acoustic rhythm guitars, guide vocals and various percussion done for two very special albums

Boat To Bolivia 40th Anniversary and the New Daintee’s album ‘Cuckoo’s’

Charlie worked like a Trojan and nailed over 22 tracks, it was very special to this 23 yo from Billingham, as his grandfather Paul Smith was the original drummer on Boat to Bolivia in 1985, Charlie is a diamond…

Then came Wednesday morning, in hops Anth, always sniffing for the kettle, yes I know Anth I’ll make you a cup of tea while you get set up, nothing has changed in 40 years ha ha, well he’s was done by 4pm, he has an incredible ear and intuitive ability, off goes Anth, and the great thing for all the guys, none live too far from the studios.

Phew? Saved me a fortune in Acom bills…

Thursday morning in comes the dude, Gary Dunn, an old beat up Telecaster and a tiny vintage Fender Princeton

Those with talent don’t need pedals and big amps, old Jim Hornsby used to call guitar pedals ‘talent boosters’

Well Gary also nailed the two albums and was heading home by 5:30pm.

Just as I was about to pack up my gear I notice a Spanish guitar on the wall so I ask John if I could do a final song in the last 20 mins of studio time “sure he says, what is it?”  Being a 33 yo he doesn’t really know my stuff

‘Oh it’s a little song called ‘Rain’ which I recorded with Gil Norton some 40 years ago at Amazon Studios, Liverpool

And just like the original all those years ago I did it in one take and by 6pm was facing the long drive north to Invergordon (7hours inc 2 pee and coffee stops)

Finally home by 1:30pm falling into bed, bank account wiped out but something special to build upon

I have lived my like this, no safety net yet somehow, I survive and it gets done, thanks to the power of good will.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been mixing and adding new vocals to these two beautiful albums that have 40 years of life and music between them, could this possibly be our last offering, is it all just getting a little too much, Im not sure, mind you I have been looking at poly tunnels and off grid options ha ha

Would you be so kind as to support us Daintees on these two projects, we don’t do ‘Go Fund Me’ as it is just ethically wrong for us,  don’t do iTunes as it’s funding the war machine, we much prefer the support of an advance copy and therefore the important duty to honour such a kind and supportive gesture, by manufacturing and posting to the good folks that care.

Just want to say a massive thank you to the lads, Anth Dunn, Gary Dunn and Charlie Smith who haven’t charged me yet for their recording duties as to allow me the time and space to bring these two treasures together.

I have added some of the finished mixes to both these projects as ‘Pre Orders’ and make them available for purchase, I will be adding the rest of the mixes early next week.

Thank you for sharing the journey with us and for the constant support

Yours in truth and love
